Graphics for Good

I’ve always been a major fan of art, specifically graphic design. It’s been a dream of mine for quite a long time to find a career in that field. When I was presented the opportunity to work as an intern on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Digital Media Engagement (DME) Team, I was over the moon.

As a Graphic Design Intern, I work alongside other intern-designers on projects that include Veteran of the Day, A Veteran’s Story, Veteran Resources, graphics for national holidays and photo editing for Instagram, Facebook, VAntage Point (the VA’s official blog), and other social media platforms. The graphics I plan, design, develop, modify and complete are posted on the VA’s social media platforms. Graphics are often viewed by upwards of 9,000,000 people each week! These posts collect views from the Veteran Resources weekly newsletter, our Instagram posts, blog posts, and from our other social media sites.

Working on the DME Team has been extremely rewarding. I create graphics and other visuals outside of school that help me show my appreciation for the sacrifices our nation’s Veterans have made. I have also had an amazing experience working in a professional environment that’s related to my major. And, of course, receiving college credit for the internship is the cherry on top; one of the best parts of the internship is that I’m able to work on projects that I enjoy while receiving university credit.

The DME internship is a highly structured program that allows you to gain new skills, add new accolades to your resume, and provides a truly meaningful experience by allowing you to give back to the Veteran community through your design work.

I highly recommend signing up for information and reminders at the following link if you are interested or if you know someone that is interested in interning with the Graphic Design DME department!
